Fair Trade Focus

A key element of the Jolica Difference lies in our commitment to Fair Trade.  Fair Trade provides a set of guidelines that help to ensure that artisans truly benefit from the sales of their creations. 

 

How does fair trade benefit artisans?  They receive a fair price, commonly referred to as a "living wage", for the products they produce as well as commitment to future orders.  This allows them to confidently provide for their families.  In addition, they receive a portion in advance to help them purchase the raw materials.  Other elements of our commitment as a member of  the Fair Trade Federation are available on their website. 

 

Artisans relate to Fair Trade buyers through a local organization called a Producer Group.  The producer group is sometimes organized as a cooperative, sometimes as a charity, etc. and provides the critical link in communication.  The producer group provides internet access, international banking, product development assistance and other critical business supports.  It also provides artisans a variety of social benefits such as schools or medical assistance.  It is through the producer group that individual artisans experience the benefits of fair trade.
