The Jolica Foundation
Giving back is one of Jolica's core values. Jolica has made a commitment to designate 5% of sales, every day of the year, to the Jolica Foundation, a fund created to generate income and build long-term jobs for artisans and their communities. At present, the Foundation is excited to be involved with 2 projects.
Chilean Heater Project
Climate Change has brought some significant challenges to living in Chile. Winter temperatures have become more extreme and the homes of our Artisan Partners here have not been constructed for these temperatures. Our challenge for January to June 2010 is to provide space heaters for our Artisan Partners as well as for others in their community who are at risk.
Afghan Garden Project
For the Garden Project in Afghanistan the Jolica Foundation is partnering with working with Mennonite Economic Development Associates to provide women in this devastated country with loans to plant "kitchen gardens". In these gardens they are able to raise produce for their families and some extra to sell. In the process they are earning an income that they are able to reinvest in their families. Each larger party provides a loan, and a step towards financial independence, for one of these women.
